“480 Minutes” - The Fool on the Hill

I will never forgive those who identify as MAGA. Obviously this feeling goes back for years now, perhaps over a decade to when MAGA first gave the finger to the democracy & decency by electing a cruel ignorant lying sex criminal clown to the highest office in the land.

This week with their Dear Leader calling “affordability” a hoax perpetrated by the Democrats (as he did with COVID-19 & all those felony convictions & the 2020 election results & so on) AND this week claiming to have been pulled from the rubble of the World Trade Center after the 9/11 tragedy kinda has to be a couple of bridges too far, no? That lying liar was nowhere near ground zero on that date & there is video of him admitting that. Shortly after that horrible day he callously bragged that with the Towers gone he now owned the tallest building in NYC (which besides being sociopathic was another lie). It is beyond me how anyone can miss the fact that these unnecessary, blatantly obvious lies are not isolated incidents but instead consitute his entire schtick. These lies & other bald-faced ones the one about crowd size at his inauguration & the one about having ended 8 wars, like how he won the 2016 election in a landslide (he lost the popular vote & the electoral college vote was close), like how he won the 2020 election (not only was it not a landslide, he lost), like how he won the 2024 election in a landslide (he did not), or like when he’s said on record 50+ times in recent months that “the Iran war is over” even though it clearly is not & troop deployments have been extended into 2027. Like those hucksters who claim “the world will end at x o’clock on x date” only to be proven wrong time & again by reality, Trump now claims that the Iran war will end just after the midterm elections — if he had the ability to end this war he’s already lost he would do so before said elections to help his party instead of making plans for a troop surge after the midterms.

Maybe this blind faith/cognitive dissonance shouldn’t surprise me when there are still 1.3 billion practicing Catholics in the world despite revelation after revelation of decades of child abuse by clergy not just covered up by the church but enabled by the powers that be by relocating known pedophile priests from one hunting ground to the unsuspecting next. A 2002 Boston Globe exposé on the subject should have made people realize that perhaps this institution they follow & to which they donate their money & entrust their children is not divine & holy but an ethically bankrupt business more concerned with holding onto its power & riches than prosecuting pedophiles. These crimes & coverups were known to victims & locals for decades before that exposé but The Globe investigation made it impossible to ignore what the general public hadn’t wanted to face: the fact that an enterprise so rich, so huge, so ubiquitous, so adored by over a billion humans could perpetrate & perpetuate such evil. Kinda like the Epstein files made it impossible to ignore Trump’s pedophilia…oh, wait…

I believe that organized religion (not just Catholicism, but that church has indeed strengthened my position) has long since passed the point of usefulness to humanity & has instead become a detriment. Not a popular opinion, I know, but there you have it: Cults are bad…except of course for the Cult of Ted, shown here visting the Great Wall of China represented by long-time listener Larry of the OC.
