“480 Minutes” - Grr…Argh

Lyric of the week: There can be no single lyric of the week when there’s a new Yard Act album. Screw those guys.

Like the new Dead Pioneers record, the new Yard Act & Joy Thieves albums require multiple listens to fully appreciate. The combined currency making these records essential: uncomfortable truths, clever observations, pointed questions (sometimes pointed inward), plus cage-rattling noise swathed in hooks, humor, & (often) grim reality.

The opening song on the Yard Act record also name-drops one of my all-time favorite songwriters, David Gedge of The Wedding Present, so they had me at track 1.

Today’s award-winning live-hosted 480 Minutes show will feature new 🎶 by CCTV (Auckland, New Zealand, @CCTVtheBand), Getdown Services (Bristol, England, @GetdownServices), Holy Wave (Austin, TX, @HolyWaveTX), The Joy Thieves (Chicago, IL, @TheJoyThieves), Panda Bear & Sonic Boom (Lisbon, Portugal, @PandaBearOfficial, @ 2020sonicboom2020), Ultra Lights (Atlanta, GA, @UltraLightsBand) & another great album from Yard Act (Leeds, England, @YardActors). Ho hum.

The show today is the 977th episode of this program & to that I say: Are you fucking kidding me?! Sorry, that question is in my head b/c it was the reply of a local band who were offended when I wrote back (I thought helpfully) pointing out issues with their submitted files, for example low bit rate files, files lacking metadata (trivial things missing like artist, album, year, etc.). Oh well, I tried, but I’m done. Why continue to bother with a fellow who is acting like an ass while asking us expose his music to new listeners? Based on a couple of absurd notions about how things work in their “are you fucking kidding me” rudeness messages they seem to me to be “new” to the industry (i.e. they told me that "Most [radio] stations buy [music] so they own the rights to stream it," a statement that is somehow both false & nonsensical at the same time. Hopefully they will grow the fuck up before the next record.
