“480 Minutes” - Dead Dinosaur Jr.

Lyric of the week: “My only sin here is being Indigenous in the 21st century… my anger is a lot safer than your mass shootings.” - Dead Pioneers, “Seeing Red”

The new Dead Pioneers record requires multiple listens to fully appreciate. Some will hate it right away because it highlights very uncomfortable truths. The lyrics pointedly point out how the U.S. is & always has been racist, but now that it’s being run by unapologetic wealthy white supremacists, that reality is one we all need to face. And not just face, but confront: choose a side — you can either choose to help make progress toward a more perfect union where humans are not judged but the color of their skin but the content of their character (nor racially profiled & lynched & mass incarcerated & disenfranchised & redlined & legislated against & so on), or you can choose irrational & counter-productive hate, doing the bidding of the billionaire dickheads who are literally stealing from us all & dividing us for their own benefit. Not picking a side puts one in the latter camp by default: neutrality, apathy, & silence always help the oppressor, never the victim.

Today’s award-winning live-hosted 480 Minutes show will feature new 🎶 by Black Marble (Brooklyn, NY, @BlackMarbleBandNYC), Dead Pioneers (Denver, CO, @Dead.Pioneers), Dinosaur Jr. (Amherst, MA, @dinoaurjr), Ecca Vandal (Melbourne, Australia via Sri Lanka, @EccaVandal), Fai Laci (Boston, MA, @Fai.Laci), Hause Plants (Lisbon, Portugal, @HausePlants), Kiwi Jr. (Toronto, Ontario, Canada, @KiwiJr), Novelistme (London, England, @NovelistMe), Railcard (London, England, @Railcard_band), & Yard Act (Leeds, England, @YardActors).

The show today is the 976th episode of this program. Last week we broke our streak of 30 consecutive weeks of new shows on Fridays. We hadn’t missed one since Thanksgiving! Anyway, I have no idea what our previous consecutive streak was but I guarantee it was not close to 30, which makes me even more proud of this new record. I hope my head fits through the studio door…
