“480 Minutes” - Done w/ ‘26 Already
Your host did not have a good New Year’s Day, thanks for asking. First World problems, for sure, but they still darkened my day.
It started by waking up & looking out the window to see a light dusting of snow. A neighbor, for whom I did multiple good deeds while he & has family were away for Christmas just this week including shoveling 4” of snow from his walkway so that he didn’t get sued when someone slipped on his property. I also took in nearly a dozen packages left on his doorstep to protect them from the weather & porch pirates. Waking up to see my walkway still dusted with snow while his was shoveled did not sit well with me & that negativity stuck with me.
Then I decided to do a little maintenance on my espresso machine. While descaling it in accordance with the simple offical instructions (as I’d done before) it burned itself out, making today my first attempt at hosting a show since October of 2024 sans espresso.
Then some TV news made it’s way into my brain via osmosis. The discussion was about the NYE release (aka attempt to bury the news) of the transcript of the House Republicans’ deposition of former January 6th Special Prosecutor Jack Smith. The transcript is an epic self-own showing that the Special Council’s office had tons of evidence proving The Orange Menace was personally & professionally responsible for the political violence at the Capitol & the majority of Smith’s witnesses were Trump supporters. Not that everyone outside the Fox-lobotomized bubble didn’t already know that, but the fact that not a single House Republican mounted any pushback (factual or otherwise) against Smith’s damning assertions made it even more clear that even they know he is guilty of it all. My head nearly exploded when a guest described the deposition as “not quite the resounding victory the Republicans expected & it does not help their cause,” which is akin to saying that “revelations from the Diddy trial make it less likely he will win boyfriend-of-the-year honors.”
The day & my mood did not improve from there.
Things can only get better from here? 🤞🏻.
Tune in for the first 480 Minutes program of 2026 today beginning at 9 a.m. Eastern U.S. Time. The show is live-hosted until 5 p.m. after which your host presents you with 2 hours of uninterrupted songs not heard during the previous 8 hours. After that the show will be rebroadcast in it's entirety on Friday evening beginning at 7 p.m., then again on Saturday at 5 a.m. & 3 p.m., & Sunday at 1 a.m. ET.
For much of the year 480 Minutes is focused on debuting our new playlist additions & highlighting other recent/soon-to-be-released releases. In this dead-of-winter timeframe submissions slow & so do we. We do have a few new things to play for you today including new (to us) 🎵 by Snocaps (Birmingham, AL, @snocaps), Tombstones In Their Eyes (Los Angles, CA, @TombstonesInTheirEyes), Tulpa (Leeds, England, @WeAreTulpa), The Valery Trails (Brisbane, Australia, @TheValeryTrails), & Yndling (Oslo, Norway, @din.yndling).
If you tune in during the noon ET hour & hear a bunch of songs older than the new mayor of NYC, don’t think you’ve tuned into the wrong station, it’s just our popular new “NoonWave” segment. NoonWave consists of an uninterrupted set of post punk & new wave (roughly 1977-1987),
