“480 Minutes” - Who Dumpty Humped

If you want to understand the title of this post watch the Colbert clip. While watching please keep in mind that last week Colbert criticized (CBS parent company) Paramount for paying off Trump in a lawsuit they knew lacked any merit, basically giving him a $16M bribe, shortly thereafter Paramount announced Colbert’s show was being canceled, then this week Trump’s FCC chair blessed the $8B merger of Paramount & Skydance. What a coincidence!

According to an FCC commissioner (not the sycophantic chair), the agency had used “its vast power to pressure Paramount to broker a private legal settlement and further erode press freedom. Even more alarming, it is now imposing never-before-seen controls over newsroom decisions and editorial judgment, in direct violation of the First Amendment and the law.”

And that’s the state of American democracy here in late July (who make my favorite tortilla chips, by the way) 2025. A convicted felon calling the shots at every agency while his spineless sycophants in congress fled the Capitol early to avoid voting on releasing The Trumpstein Child Trafficking Files.
