“480 Minutes” - So This Is The New Year…
…and I don’t feel any different. Well, that’s not exactly true. Since New Year’s Eve day I’ve come down with a little something, something not pleasant. It’s a cold, not even a terrible one, but the constant aches & pains & coughing have made this week ton less fun than I’d hoped.
In other news, today will we kick off the 20th year (!) of 480 Minutes with the first episode of 2024 (I’d have shortened that to Episode 1 but, you know…). It will be episode 860 since we started this little experiment in live-hosting regularly over the internet in 2004.
The show will include some music not yet heard on BAGeL Radio, some new, some left over from 2023 that we never got around to reviewing & adding to rotation. One of those things is the nearly 1-year old debut album from the band M(h)aol (Dublin, Ireland, @MhaolMusic). We played the great single, “Asking For It,” late in 2023 (video below), & now that we got to live with the album a bit it is amazing in that it manages to somehow be seething, searing, & joyful at the same time.
Other new playlist additions will include Dr Scientist (Morristown, NJ, @DrScientistLives), The Fourth Wall (Portland, OR, @_The_Fourth_Wall), Kurt Vile (Philadelphia, PA, @KurtVile), & Meg Elsier (Nashville, TN, @MegElsier).
The show will be rebroadcast in its entirety on Friday evening beginning at 7 p.m., Saturday at 5 a.m. & 3 p.m., and Sunday at 1 a.m. ET.
