BAGeL Radio Wins Best Live Show Award at 2005 Best of Live365 Awards

Prestigious Award for Local Internet Radio Show

May 5, 2005 ~ San Francisco, Calif. ~ BAGeL Radio, a San Francisco-based indie rock Internet radio station, won the award for Best Live Show at the 2005 ‘Best Of Live365’ Awards.

On the air since February 2003, BAGeL Radio was also nominated in the Best Indie Station category, and was nominated for the Best Live Show award in 2004.

Live365 Award winners are chosen by listener and broadcaster voting at the annual  awards ceremony, which was held on May 1, 2005, in Burlingame, CA.

BAGeL Radio broadcasts indie rock all day, every day to its listeners who cover the globe in 187 U.S. municipalities and 79 countries.  The award-winning live show airs Fridays from 9a.m.-5p.m. Pacific Time.  Hosted by BAGeL Radio Music Supervisor Ted Leibowitz, the show features the newest indie rock available along with recent playlist additions and alt-rock classics of the last four decades.

Listeners are treated to classic alternative acts like Bauhaus and New Order, current indie rock darlings like The Arcade Fire and Bloc Party, pre-terrestrial radio acts like The Beauty Shop and The Girls, and unsigned acts like The Ex-Boyfriends and Hijack The Disco.  The show includes the newest BAGeL Radio playlist additions along with gems from a massive music collection that spans the last forty years.

Commenting on BAGeL Radio’s live show, Music Manager Jon Myer of 6Music, the BBC’s newest cutting edge music station said, “This is very bizarre, sitting in London, listening to you in California, playing records by obscure British indie bands that I should be listening to for tomorrow's play list meeting!"

Requests are taken in real time by show host and Music Supervisor, Ted Leibowitz, via e-mail and instant messenger for a truly interactive radio event.  A recorded version of the show is rebroadcast over the weekend.

“I get e-mails and instant messages from people thanking me for turning them on to bands.  I love sharing music – it’s the reason I do this – so hearing from listeners always makes my day,” said Leibowitz.  “If BAGeL Radio inspires people to seek out new music, to boldly buy albums that no one else is buying yet, I feel like I’ve accomplished something.”

Current BAGeL Radio favorites include The Girls, The Beauty Shop, Xavier Floyd Firebird,  The Shout Out Louds, The Kills, and Autolux.  Long-time featured acts include The Pixies, PJ Harvey, The White Stripes, Death Cab For Cutie, Radiohead, The Smiths, and X. BAGeL Radio also spotlights local Bay Area talent including [the] caseworker, The Ex-Boyfriends, Hijack The Disco, Loquat, The Otherside, and The Heavenly States.

"We have the world's most vibrant network of digital radio stations representing the collective creativity of thousands of individuals, businesses and organizations,” said Live365 COO, Rags Gupta.  Live365 boasts an audience of more than 3 million listeners each month amongst its 20,000 stations.

“People like the live show because I really love the stuff I play,” said Leibowitz.  “There is almost no payola involved, aside from the occasional cookies sent along with promo CDs.”
